George Papadopoulos; The Irontroll Guide To TrumpGate; UPDATED Dec 1, 2018

Posted By: ZiLe Ohai - September 07, 2018

Update: George began his prison sentence this week. He's spent the last few months promoting assorted conspiracy theories, which include that Joseph Mifsud was a UK spy.

Unfortunately George, who keeps reinforcing my opinion that he's not the brightest bulb on the tree, claims he'll be vindicated when the FISA application is declassified. I'm not sure what he'll be vindicated for since he's serving time for lying to the FBI. And it was his big mouth that started the FBI investigation into the email hacking. A FISA declassification can't vindicate you for being a liar with a big mouth.

George should be more concerned about his wife's secrets. He may not be quite as lucky as he thinks.

End of Update~~~~~~~~~~~~~

George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI in October of 2017. Mueller recommended a 6 month sentence, George's attorneys asked for leniency and they got it. On September 7th, 2018, George was sentenced to 14 days in prison.

It was George's gossip with an Australian ambassador about Russia and hacked emails that started "Crossfire Hurricane" an FBI investigation into communications between the Trump campaign and Russia.

For some unknown, but no doubt crazy, reason George Papadopoulos was a foreign policy adviser on Ben Carson's 2016 presidential campaign even though he had no experience in foreign policy, politics or advising. After Carson decided to go back to sleep, Papadopoulos was hired by Trump's campaign and became a foreign policy advisor for them too. This wasn't crazy at all because George now had two whole months of experience as a foreign policy advisor.

At some point while traveling in London as part of his unknown duties, Papadopoulos met a teacher of diplomacy named Joseph Mifsud, who is suspected of being a Russian agent.

Joseph Mifsud told Papadopoulos that the Russian government had dirt on Hillary Clinton in the form of thousands of emails. This led to Papadopoulos meeting with a woman he was told was the daughter of Vladimir Putin. George was catfished.

Mifsud also introduced George to Ivan Timofeev, a Russian, and the two corresponded for several months discussing how to arrange a meeting between Trump and Putin.

While having a drink with Australian Ambassador, Alexander Downer, George mentioned that Russia had thousands of Hillary Clinton's emails.  When emails started appearing on WikiLeaks later that year, Ambassador Downer informed his superiors.

At his sentencing hearing, lawyers for Papadopoulos used the Trump defense, claiming their client was influenced by Trump's claims that the Mueller investigation was a witchhunt and that Trump hindered Mueller's investigation more than Papadopoulos did. George himself claimed he was "young and ambitious and wanted to serve my country at the highest levels".

Along with the 14 days imprisonment, Papadopoulos was also sentenced to 200 hours of community service and 12 months of supervised release.
